Dawoodi Bohra Grooms: What a Serious Profile Looks Like

Every member makes the same promise

Before anyone can join Bohri Cupid, they tick a box to confirm that they're not in a relationship and that they're here for a serious relationship leading to marriage. A profile can't be finished without it. Then a person on our team reviews every profile before it goes live.

So every groom you meet on Bohri Cupid has already said, in writing, that he's here to get married. What the rest of his profile tells you is how much thought he's put into it.

For brides and families: signs of a serious profile

• Verification. A selfie taken in the app, a photo in topi and a government ID. Each one adds to his verification score out of 100. A groom who has done all three has nothing to hide.

• Clear, recent photos. Members can add up to three. Every photo is checked for a clearly visible face before it appears.

• A bio and prompts with substance. The bio has room for 750 characters, and there are up to three written prompts. Someone who uses them to say what he values, how he spends his time and what he hopes for in a marriage is someone worth a closer look.

• Life & Background, filled in. Every question in this section has to be answered before a profile can be saved, so you'll always see the basics.

• His Bohra personality. If he's taken the 21-question quiz and chosen to show it, you'll see whether he's a Devotee, Thinker, Harmoniser, Keeper or Independent.

If anything about a profile feels wrong, you can report or block it from the "•••" menu. The other person isn't told.

For men: build a profile that earns a like

On Bohri Cupid, as on most matrimony apps, women are the scarcer side. The good news is that the things that make a profile stand out are entirely in your hands.

1. Finish your verification. Add your topi photo and your ID as well as the selfie. It's the clearest signal you can send.

2. Choose photos your family would approve of. Your face clearly visible, recent, and natural. Your first photo is your Main photo, so make it the best one.

3. Write like you talk. Use your prompts to say something real: what a good weekend looks like, what you're proud of, what you want your home to feel like.

4. Check your Profile Score. On Premium, Aunty Intelligence reviews your photos, bio and prompts and gives you a score out of 100, with tips under "Aunty Recommends…".

5. Respect her privacy. Many women use Privacy Blur, so their photos are clear only to people they like or match with. That's by design. Let your profile do the work.

Your first message

When you match, a chat opens straight away, and a new match shows icebreaker questions to help you start. Aunty Intelligence can also suggest conversation starters based on the interests you share. A thoughtful first line, about something she actually wrote, beats "Salaam, how are you?" every time.

Remember that a chat ends if nobody writes for three days, so don't leave her waiting.

How many profiles you'll see

The Free plan shows you 5 profiles a day from countries in your region. Community shows 10 a day and lets you search beyond your region. Premium shows 15 a day and adds the Education and Marital Status filters.
